Flood Relief Efforts for Pakistan

At least 14 million people in Pakistan have been affected by the country's worst monsoon floods in the living memory of the nation. The UN estimates that more than 2000 people have already died.Hundreds of thousands left without home or  food. They were struggling to find clean water, food, shelter health care. With numerous bridges destroyed in one district alone, survivors were facing many obstacles trying to access these basic necessities. There were break-outs of Cholera and dysentery in the affected areas.

Association of Pakistani Americans of Central Florida (APA) is a nonprofit and voluntary organization established in 2007. Our primary focus and goal is to provide Cultural, Social and Charitable opportunities to our community. APA’s charitable endeavors extend not only within USA but also touches the lives of people in Pakistan. In order to help our suffering brethrens in Flood ravaged areas of our motherland, APA  launched an appeal to collect funds to expedite relief efforts in Pakistan. Insha-Allah on  Friday, August 20th APA  raised funds after Jumma prayer at Jama’ Masjid, Orlando and Sanford Mosque to help the victims.

The need was of such a magnitude that a formal fundraising was organized on September 2nd at Wyndham Hotel in Orlando, where $167,000 were collected due to the generous contributions of the community members.  The money was spent on food and shelter through reputable organizations, purchase of water purification units and building of homes in the flood ravaged areas.

We are deeply grateful to the community for stepping up to the plate in hour of need.
